Elk home is situated on College Street in the beautiful village of Grasmere in the heart of the Lake District National Park. Surrounded by glorious scenery, imposing fells and the stunning Grasmere Lake, we think it's a very special place! The village is a mecca for fans of William Wordsworth, who lived in four different houses in the village, including Dove Cottage and Rydal Mount. The thirteenth century village church - St Oswald's - is the final resting place of Wordsworth, his sister Dorothy, wife and their children and he is buried here beneath the yew trees he planted himself Grasmere is a perfect base for fell-walkers, with Silver Howe, Helm Crag and Stone Arthur most prominent, and the greater Helvellyn and Fairfield close by. The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, which has sold the world famous and unique Grasmere gingerbread since 1854 is a 'must' on a visit to the village. The shop was once the village school, where William Wordsworth's children were taught and where, on rare occasions, he stood in for the local schoolmaster |
